Use this word carefully. Not everybody who speaks Irish is a Gaeilgeoir or wants to be described as one. English speakers sometimes use the word as a derogatory reference to a bothersome person who insists on speaking Irish when it's not convenient, while native Irish speakers from the Gaeltacht are more likely to apply the term to Irish learners from the cities rather than to themselves. If you want to refer to an Irish speaker neutrally, say cainteoir GaeilgeIrish speaker, duine le Gaeilgesomebody with Irish or duine a bhfuil Gaeilge aigesomebody who speaks Irish.
